God strengthens us….

The strength we have on our own as humans is limited. No matter how many self-help ideas we implement, or how many positive affirmations we proclaim, our strength will only take us so far.

“My grace is ALL you need, my power works best in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
Paul begged God to remove his thorn in the flesh but God told him “no”.

Why?

While we see weakness as a barrier, God is using it to uphold us….

Our strength as humans may only get to a certain level, but with Gods strength boosting us up, there is nothing we cannot endure.

When we are in a trial where we have our own “thorn in the flesh”.

We can derive power by admitting we cannot do it on our own and crying out to God “I surrender! Thy will be done! I surrender this __________ to you!”

This also proves our Faith is genuine.

It is a chance for God’s unlimited strength to strengthen us so we will be “perfect and complete and needing nothing” James 1:4

C3…Committed to Connection

Achieving a C2 vision is perhaps the most challenging. A C1 vision requires us to do some things: pray, worship, study the Bible. But a C2 vision requires us to be some things: humble, kind, honest, steadfast. Sadly, many believers never get there. What we should realize, however, is that once we get to a C2 vision, the rest comes immediately within our reach. This is why it is worth being fully committed to Christ-like character. Let’s move on now to the next level of vision: C3 (C to the third power). C3 stands for Committed to Connection.

We talked earlier about why there was such discord and division among the Corinthian believers. It was because they failed to discern the Lord’s body. To be committed to connection means to be committed to the body and every member in particular. You see, it is not enough to simply attend the meetings of the church. Each one of us must be committed to connecting.

Jesus is the ultimate example of a connector. During the day of His flesh He was continually inviting people to get close to Him. “Come unto Me,” He says over and over with outstretched arms. “I’ll be your friend. I’ll let you in. I’ll spend time with you. I’ll share myself with you. And I will in no way cast you aside.”

This is where your character begins to impact the rest of who you are in Christ. Poor character, for example, hinders relationships. No one wants to get too close to a person who cannot be trusted. No one wants to spend time with someone who is self-centered or arrogant or nasty. The attribute that unites character with connection and serves as the force that holds the body of Christ together is love.

As our relationship with Jesus grows and matures, we will begin to recognize ever more clearly our weaknesses and inabilities as human beings. This ought to cause us to become stronger in Him. The reason some believers lack spiritual strength is because they are still strong within themselves.

Paul wrote, “When I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10). He told the Philippians, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (4:13). He told the Ephesians, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might [not our might, but His might]” (Ephesians 6:10).

As we get to know the Lord and learn to trust in His power, we ought to become stronger and stronger in Him. This means developing the character trait of strength—what the dictionary called “firmness.” A person who is strong in the Lord is resolute, determined, unyielding, self-controlled, uncompromising.

No one respects a person who is limp-wristed or lukewarm or namby-pamby. People want to follow leaders who stand for something. Someone said, “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.” Firmness is that aspect of godly character that holds all the rest of it together. John the Baptist was a great example of a man of firmness and resolve. Concerning John, Jesus said…
Matthew 11:7-8

“What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.”

The Bible uses the term “upright” to describe people who have good character.

Proverbs 11:3

The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.

Proverbs 11:6

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.

The Hebrew word translated “upright” means “to be straight.”

Proverbs 11:20

Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the LORD….
The word translated “perverse” means “crooked or distorted.” So on the one hand we have people who are described as straight and on the other hand people who are described as crooked. This is because, above all else, people are identified by their character. We say, “He is a good man, he is an honest man.” Or, “He is an immoral man, he is a liar, he is a cheat.”
Now think of the trunks of trees. Which do you want to be thought of? One who is crooked and twisted? Or one who is straight, strong, and tall?

Ecclesiastes 1:15

What is crooked cannot be made straight…

Ecclesiastes 7:13

Consider the work of God; for who can make straight what He has made crooked?

Yet, in spite of what may seem impossible to man, the Bible says this concerning the coming of Jesus Christ …

Luke 3:5-6

“Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth; 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

It does not matter how poor a person’s character may have been in the past, once he has seen the salvation of God, every crooked place can be made straight. God is not necessarily looking for people with good character. He is looking for people who will allow Him to develop His character in them.

Colossians 2:6-7

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him….

We each received Christ when we were born again. But there is a big difference between receiving Jesus and walking in Him. It is the difference between just meeting someone and developing a relationship with that person. A C1 vision is all about building a relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything else in your spiritual life hinges upon this.

This verse says that we are to be rooted in Him. The picture is that of roots getting deep down into the ground where they become so intertwined with the ground that the tree cannot be uprooted. Some trees, like some believers, have very shallow roots. But this is not what the Lord wants. He wants our roots to go deep. He wants our relationship with Him to be close and strong. He wants our spirits to be intertwined with His Spirit.

“The Place Where God is Taking Us”

The bedrock of the spiritual life is the eternal purpose of God.

Everything depends upon it.

To fail to understand God’s purpose is to fail to understand what God is all about.

Ephesians 1:9-10, 12

Having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ…12 to the praise of His glory.

To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
God has purposed from before the foundations of the world that He will fill the earth with His glory as the waters cover the sea, and nothing can prevent this from happening (ref. Habakkuk 2:14).

This is what God is all about.

This is what He has been heading toward from the very beginning. And this is what He is doing in the earth today.

“The Crucified Life”

We have seen that to have Godly vision, we must first have a vision of Jesus—the real Jesus, as He really is. When we see Jesus as He really is, we will also see ourselves as we really are. We saw that when the great men of the Bible saw Jesus, they were instantly humbled, feeling as though they wanted to just disappear. Once we reach this place of utter brokenness before God, we are then in a position to receive God’s vision for our lives. We have also seen that God’s vision for our lives is intricately connected to His eternal purpose for His creation, which is to cover the earth with His glory.

So let’s say that you are getting a clearer vision of Jesus. And by this you are also getting a clearer vision of yourself. You are getting a greater sense of your unworthiness, your utter sinfulness, and your total inability. When you compare yourself to His glory and His holiness, you see that you are merely an earthen vessel and that without Him you can do nothing. This is where Job was when He said, “Now my eye sees You, therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes”— dust and ashes being a symbol of death.

If you are at this place, or approaching this place, then the next thing is to allow God to give you His vision for your life. Having this vision is what will elevate you from the earthly and mundane to the glorious and transcendent. But God isn’t going to give it to you as long as you are filled with self-will and the lusts of the flesh. You must become utterly broken before Him! But let’s assume you have reached this place. What then?

The Hebrew idea of understanding is the ability to put all the pieces together. It is being able to see both the whole and the individual parts that make up the whole; plus how the parts fit together to form the whole. Without this kind of understanding, life will be haphazard, inconsistent, and ultimately unfruitful. Understanding life is what stands under us—it supports us, it bears us up during times of difficulty and struggle.

Do you ever feel as though your life is disjointed? This is happening and that is happening, but you can’t see how it all fits together. This is evidence of a lack of understanding and vision.

Without such a vision we will certainly perish.

But a vision of this significance does not come cheaply.

You must want it. And you must understand where it comes from.

Just as it was for Paul, to receive a compelling life-vision we must first have a profound vision of the Lord Himself.

Listen to Paul’s response to Jesus when the Lord appeared to Him on the road to Damascus: “So he, trembling and astonished, said, ‘Lord, what do You want me to do?’” (Acts 9:6).

This is an example of the right kind of response to a revelation of Jesus Christ—trembling, astonished, submissive.

David L. Nathan, MD, DFAPA is a Princeton, New Jersey based psychiatrist, writer, speaker, educator, and consultant. He is the founder and board president of Doctors for Cannabis Regulation and a founding steering committee member of New Jersey United for Marijuana Reform. Recently, he was named as one of five leaders of the newly formed coalition to support New Jersey’s 2020 cannabis legalization ballot initiative.

Dr. Nathan was the first physician in New Jersey history to testify in favor of cannabis legalization before the state legislature, and he has provided a total of 15 testimonies in eight US states. In 2019, Dr. Nathan was one of two physicians to testify at the first-ever US House Judiciary Committee hearing on cannabis legalization.
Dr. Nathan is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University, received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and completed his psychiatry residency at McLean Hospital of Harvard Medical School.

While a medical student at Penn Med, Dr. Nathan created, designed, illustrated, and supervised the completion of medical education software packages for anatomy, histology, and embryology. These early GUI programs were used in medical schools around the world.

Dr. Nathan serves as Director of Continuing Medical Education for Penn Medicine Princeton Health and Director of Professional Education at Princeton House Behavioral Health. On the topic of cannabis policy, Dr. Nathan does not necessarily represent the views of these organizations.

Dr. Nathan is a clinical associate professor at Rutgers RWJ Medical School and a community fellow at Mathey College of Princeton University. Recently, he was appointed to the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Endocannabinoid Medicine and Cannabis Science and Technology.

Dr. Nathan has written and spoken extensively on cannabis policy, with audiences including lawmakers, businesspeople, state medical societies, hospital medical staff, allied health professionals, and the lay public. Among his dozens of published articles, he coauthored a landmark opinion piece on cannabis regulation with former Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders for the American Journal of Public Health.

Dr. Nathan has appeared in nationally syndicated broadcast, online and print media publications, with more prominent outlets including CNN, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, US News & World Report, VICE News, San Francisco Chronicle, Politico, The Week (UK), and SinoVision News. He has also appeared in many state/province and local media outlets around the United States and Canada.

On this broadcast, Mary Canada joins us to discuss her Non-Profit, Caring Hearts… Mary Canada lives in Farmington, MN, and works full-time in Minneapolis. She is the founder/Executive Director of Caring Hearts. Caring Hearts was started from her garage almost 3 years ago.

She saw a need for basic items out in the community because she saw many homeless people on her commute and wanted to make a difference. They officially got their 501c3 in 2018. Now, they have a strong board of directors and a FREE Community Closet & Pantry on 4th St. in downtown Farmington.

Anyone in MN is free to shop there, no questions asked. Everyone is treated with kindness & respect. They have a fully stocked pantry, clothing, shoes & household items. Each shopper receives personal hygiene products. They need your support in helping them get to the next level of growth.

This would be capital to purchase or lease a larger space to allow us to serve a greater number of people. Recently when the COVID pandemic hit, Caring Hearts was able to help feed the community with over 40,000 pounds of food, personal care items & TP!

In 2007 I recommitted my life to the Lord. In 2009 I began personal training and helping others on their road to health and fitness. Now although I was saved, I was not yet set free. I was still carrying around so much shame and condemnation. I began covering my body in tattoos because I had an identity issue, hoping no one would recognize me for who I used to be. I competed in several body building shows and at the time using massive amounts of steroids. Still looking for acceptance and approval from man. But a couple years ago I went through a curriculum called Freedom and it was a pivotal shift in my walk with God. I am now a full time missionary in the ‘hood’ of Houston for a non profit organization. I have the honor of getting to walk alongside people that are far away from God in hopes to lead them into his kingdom and reclaim their identity in Him!

As a Canadian author, speaker, and professional coach, Stephanie Nielson is someone who consistently pushes herself to reach past her current limitations to become more. Stephanie dubs herself a “Creative Extraordinaire” and revels in her understanding of how we are all the masters of our own universe and have the ability to create the world we want to live in.
The joy she takes from observing her own reality unfold in unimaginable ways inspires her to help others to achieve the same. She strongly believes in the philosophy of “Reach one, teach one” and claims that any and all success is achieved by cultivating the right mindset. For it does not matter where you begin, but only where you chose to end!
Having survived an alcoholic parent, a divorced home, being a single parent who raised two young sons alone, developing a 6+ figure income with no formal education and creating a successful and well-respected career in a male-dominated industry, there are many areas in which Stephanie can speak to with her experiences and expertise.
She believes, however, that her true message is about overcoming obstacles. It is with this perspective that she has written three books and developed a speaker/coaching practice through the John Maxwell Certification Program. It is Stephanie’s passion and her calling to help others overcome their obstacles, whatever they may be, to reach their next level of excellence.

After high school, Dr. Rosado trained as an emergency medical technician, paramedic, and catheterization laboratory technician while working his way through college. A major car accident led Dr. Rosado to the field of chiropractic. After a chiropractor alleviated his agonizing back pain in just a few weeks of care, Dr. Rosado decided to explore the complementary medicine system. As a chiropractor, Dr. Rosado dedicated his practice to helping underserved communities, particularly those for whom English was a second language, ensuring that each patient received the highest quality of care that he could provide. Much more than a practitioner, Dr. Rosado became a friend, and for many, their only healthcare provider. Dr. Rosado’s decision to become a medical doctor was inspired by one such patient, who called in a frantic state when his daughter suffered a series of non-stop epileptic seizures. Distraught, the father sought Dr. Rosado’s support to save her life. Dr. Rosado provided critical advice to stabilize the girl, and then accompanied her family to the emergency room, where he translated for her terrified parents. The experience helped Dr. Rosado understand both the necessity of bilingual doctors and his own calling in medicine. 

At the age of 35, Dr. Rosado entered medical school, quickly distinguishing him as a top student, while working his way through school as a husband and father. In medical school, he studied marijuana and determined that potential health and wellness benefits could be extracted from the plant. As a student and newly certified physician, Dr. Rosado worked throughout the Latin American Diaspora, setting up a clinic in Costa Rica, serving as a team doctor for the country’s Olympic teams and hotel concierge physician in the Dominican Republic, among other roles. 

Family obligations brought Dr. Rosado back to the United States, where he leveraged his years of healthcare experience, rapidly rising to the top of Florida’s public health community as a physician, clinic and hospital director, and director of the communicable disease division/epidemiology and immunization departments for St. Johns County. In 2014, Dr. Rosado added his considerable professional expertise to the frontlines of Florida’s push for medical marijuana. One of the state’s first doctors advocating for medical cannabis, Dr. Rosado also had the distinction of being the first Central Florida physician to recommend medical marijuana for an adult patient, as well as the first to recommend it for a patient under the age of 18. 

Presently, Dr. Rosado is the co-owner of Coastal Cannabis Clinics, a group of medical cannabis clinics in Volusia County, FL, the president and CEO of International Medical Consultants, the co-Medical Director for Minorities 4 Medical Marijuana and Medical Director for marijuanadoctors.com; and, on the scientific board of advisers for Medical Extractos in Medellin, Colombia and Ellipsis in Quebec, Canada.

As a clinician he has worked with thousands of patients, from toddlers to the elderly, recommending medical cannabis and managing treatment.

Dr. Rosado remains an outspoken advocate and highly sought-after speaker and educator with global impact, lecturing throughout the United States and abroad in Canada, Mexico, Malaysia, Fiji, Thailand, and a host of other countries. He’s appeared in a slew of national and local media outlets, including ABC, CBS, NBC, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times. 

A published author, Dr. Rosado has written multiple articles for medical journals, as well as the bestselling book “Hope and Healing-A Case for Cannabis”

In August 2019, he received the Physician of the Year Award at the Healthcare Achievement Awards sponsored by the Volusia County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and in December 2019, he was named one of 65 Outstanding Black & Hispanic Men Leading in Cannabis by The WeedHead & Co.

Dr. Rosado holds degrees in clinical nutrition and chiropractic medicine from Life College in Marietta, GA, a medical degree from Universidad Central del Este, in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, where he graduated summa cum laude. Keys to Change

Change is one of the most important factors in human life,
whether that change is imposed on us or we’ve created the
change ourselves and are eagerly anticipating its possibilities.
Yet most people don’t manage change effectively and
positively.

How we relate to change has a significant impact on our quality
of life and whether or not we accomplish what we are meant to
during our time on earth. Understanding how to view, respond
to, and benefit from change is vital to a well-balanced and
fulfilling life.

God is the original Innovator who initiated the principle of
change on earth by creating time and seasons. “God said, ‘Let
there be lights in the expanse of the sky…, and let them serve
as signs to mark seasons and days and years’” (Genesis 1:14).
Our world functions in time because God created it that way.

Natural rhythms exist all around us. There are seasons in
nature, with corresponding changes in the weather, and
seasons in our bodies. There are seasons in our personal lives
and seasons within the changing tides of human history. The
very nature of seasons implies change.
~~~
Some of the change we experience is a result of evil acts
perpetrated by others. Sin entered the world when humanity
rebelled against God and went its own way. Yet change itself is
not a result of the fall of humanity. It is built into creation.

YOU ARE GOD’S CHILD

Because Jesus’ finished work on the Cross has given us direct access to God, we can now enter into His presence as children, not as servants or slaves. Second Corinthians 6:18 says, “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Children have privileges in a household. They don’t stand outside and knock—they come right in, because their dad owns the house. They don’t stand outside the kitchen and ask for food—they go right into the refrigerator and help themselves.

I remember when I moved back to my hometown after I was married, and I needed a particular tool, I’d just go over to my parents’ house during the day (when they were at work) and borrow the tool. Because I believed everything that was theirs was mine. Now, if I weren’t their child—if I was just a friend or a guest—that could be called stealing! But children have certain rights and privileges in a family.

You are no longer a guest in God’s house—you are His beloved child. First John 3:1 says, “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” (NLT). God’s love gives you the kind of access that only family can have. You don’t have to wait to be invited—you can legally now just walk in boldly and claim your rights and privileges. You can expect to be welcomed with open arms. You can crawl up into Daddy’s lap and cuddle up for a nice chat.

When I found out I was God’s beloved daughter, I stopped approaching Him like, “Almighty One, please hear me,” or “Sir, can I speak with You for a moment?” No, I just say, “Abba, Father…” and continue talking with Him as the apple of His eye—as if He wanted to hear from me and have a chat with me. Because He does!

And He wants to do the same with you. You no longer have to shake with fear when talking to God, wondering if you’ll be received or not. You have right standing—you are the righteousness of God in Christ (see Rom. 6:18). You are God’s beloved child, with all the rights and privileges that entails.

“YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST

Sometimes we’ve had really rotten things happen in our life that have shaped our self-image. Yes, there are some of us who had a great childhood and have always had a fairly healthy self-image.

But maybe you’re one whose family or childhood friends (or enemies!) said and did things that made you doubt your worth. Maybe you have a bad self-image. That can make it much harder to get close to God.

But when you become a Christian, the life of God comes to live inside you (see Rom. 8:10). Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus” (NLT), so you can do the good things He’s planned for you. You’re simply not the same person on the inside that you were before.

Becoming a Christian means receiving a new identity in Christ. You don’t lose your true self in Jesus; you become your true self in Him. He is your life (see Col. 3:4). Acts 17:28 says, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” When you are born again after receiving Jesus as Savior, He puts His very Spirit in your spirit as His guarantee of everything you have inherited in Him.

There is nothing more amazing than being in Christ, being His child, the heir of His inheritance (see Rom. 8:17). No more do you ever need to walk under a blanket of shame or unworthiness with a bad self-image. Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” In Christ, you are new.

You simply must believe it. You must believe that you are who God says you are, not what others say or what has happened to you in the past. See yourself as God sees you today. The best way to do that is to look into His Word, the Bible. His Word will tell you who you really are!

The Bible is described as a mirror (see James 1:23). Instead of looking into your mirror and seeing who you have been, look instead and see yourself as He does! He sees you in Christ. When you look at yourself through God’s eyes, you see a wonderful new creation, bought by the blood of Jesus, beloved in your Father’s sight.”

Do you feel that you are worthy of the life you have always desired?

YOU ARE WORTHY

Sometimes when we goof up, we’re tempted to give in to shame and not approach Him boldly. We still have feelings of inadequacy and we try to hide from God.

But because of what Jesus did for us, we’re not inadequate! We are worthy! Not one of us is worthy on our own (see Ps. 14:1). But when God sent Jesus “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10), everything changed. Instead of judgment, we received grace. Instead of destruction, we received salvation. Instead of death, we received life!

First John 2:2 says, “And he is the propitiation [that is, total satisfaction] for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (KJV). God made us worthy when He put His son upon the cross at Calvary—when He put our sin (and the penalties for sin) upon Jesus Himself. God made us worthy when He took the righteousness of Jesus Himself and put it upon us (see 2 Cor. 5:21). It was the Great Substitution. Now God sees us not in our sin, but in the righteousness of Christ.

No matter what you’ve done (or haven’t done), the blood of Jesus was enough to make you righteous. You don’t have to pay for sin—it’s already paid for. Today if you sin, 1 John 1:9 tells you what to do: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Your part is to genuinely repent, ask God’s forgiveness, then believe you receive it. It’s what Jesus died for.

The devil would love you to think your actions have disqualified you. But he’s a liar. God’s plans for you haven’t changed (see Jer. 29:11; Rom. 11:29). His power in you is greater than anything you’ve done (or not done). He loves you more than the devil hates you! He forgives you, and His mercy endures forever.

God loves you in spite of your shortcomings and your inadequacies. He’s cleansed you from all unrighteousness. You have complete access to Him. He wants to help you, love you, and allow you to partake of His grace every day. There is an unending supply of His supernatural wisdom, resources, and ability available for you. In His eyes, you are worthy.

How do you pray?

How do you show up for God when you pray?

Do you pray bold, empowering prayers?

The Secret Place of Prayer

Prayer is a place. A secret place in the Spirit. There, our relationship with God is established; and from there, everything we ask according to His will is given to us. When Jesus was on earth, He would often pray alone in the desert, but we can choose any place and dedicate it specifically for prayer.

In the natural, we all need a physical place to represent the spiritual place where we meet daily with God. However, in order to fully experience the presence of God, we must recognize that the atmosphere of that place is more important than the place itself. There is nowhere on earth (or in the universe) where the presence of God is absent, no matter how hidden it may be. Nevertheless, although the Lord is everywhere, He does not manifest His presence everywhere. His presence manifests only where He is worshipped “in spirit and truth” (John 4:23–24).

Communing with the Lord

Jesus taught that when we pray, we should go into our “room” (place of prayer), shut ourselves in with God, and speak to Him with faith and trust, as a little child speaks to their father. (See Matthew 6:6.) Our heavenly Father will always be waiting for us there. When we have learned to pray in the secret place, we will find that nothing and no one else is more important to us than God. In that place, we are alone with our Creator—the King of Kings, the Almighty, the One who knows everything, including the state of each person’s heart. (See, for example, 1 John 3:20; Acts 1:24.) There, we are submerged in such sweet communion with the Lord that we don’t want to leave that place; we are passionate about being alone with our heavenly Father, and that pleases Him.

Being in the presence of God is so wonderful that we no longer worry about other people or about our problems, fears, and doubts; not even the thought of gaining riches or fame interests us. If, while we are praying, we are thinking about other things, we are not truly in God’s presence because there He becomes our complete reality.

Transformed in God’s Presence

The secret place of prayer is where man meets his Creator and is transformed. God expects us to daily enter His presence—the place where spiritual power and activity are released—to know His heart and to receive His authority. He longs for us to enter the place of submission, where the keys of the kingdom are found and where we receive His favor.

In coming devotionals, we will explore such topics as the features of the secret place of prayer, what it means to be a “house of prayer,” the priority of prayer, the “golden rule of prayer,” and praying according to God’s will.

If you recognize that your prayer life is not what it should be, if you know you have been praying in merely a “religious” way, without being conscious of the presence of God, without power or spiritual activity in your daily life, I invite you to say the following prayer:

“Beloved God, I thank You for bringing this revelation of the secret place of prayer to me. I ask for forgiveness if, due to ignorance or apathy, I have not known how to seek a relationship with You that leads me to be in Your presence. Today, I commit to walk in communion with You. I know that You are my greater Reality, my absolute Reality. I proclaim that I am fully conscious of Your presence, of Your fellowship, and of the power and authority our relationship releases. I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen!”

Thought: Prayer begins when we recognize we are in the presence of God.

What do you do when you are feeling impulsive?

One of the best decisions we can make is to STOP.

Take a time out..

Pray for guidance…

Or ask for guidance from people who are aligned with you spiritually..

Play out the possible outcomes… take the time to visualize what the possibilities are.

Most of us have good intentions or at least some kind of justification for the things we do. And yet so many of us seem surprised when we find ourselves a long way from the direction we want to go. – This happens to me when I act on impulse..

The big changes in our lives—both negative and positive—rarely happen without a series of decisions piling on top of each other like never-ending dominoes.

Do you see how stopping can be beneficial?

What can you stop in order to move you closer to God’s divine direction?

Are you doing anything that’s taking you in a direction you don’t want to go or that God doesn’t want you to go?

What do you need to stop completely?

An addiction to social media, alcohol, porn, approval, or work? An unhealthy relationship?

A judgmental attitude?

What can you stop in order to move you closer to God’s divine direction? Treat each choice like it’s the next stepping-stone toward your destination.

When a behavior or relationship takes us in a direction we know is moving farther away from the story we want to tell, we need to pause not only to consider the consequences but also to choose to stop traveling in the wrong direction.

You’ve probably heard the word “repent.” One of its literal meanings is to turn around. When you repent, you stop heading in one direction and return to God and His path for you.

In this sense, stopping actually means stepping in a new direction. You might need to step toward accountability, forgiveness, the right friends, or a new place to live.
Ask yourself:

1. If I make the choice I’m considering, where could it take me?

2. What can I stop in order to move closer to God’s divine direction?

Maximum Freedom

“For years, I believed God was working against my personal freedom. I pictured Him as a divine Lawgiver who spent the majority of His time creating new ways to further restrict my liberty. Statements such as the one found in Galatians 5:1 made little sense to me: “It was for freedom that Christ set us free.” I would read them over and over and wonder why, if Christ came to set us free, I felt like such a slave.

Then one day when I was reading Genesis, a thought popped into my mind: Adam and Eve had only one rule (Gen. 2:17). Imagine living in a world where there was only one rule! The implications are astounding. Most significant, however, is the fact that in the perfect environment, where God had everything just the way He wanted it, He issued only one “thou shalt not.” To put it another way, God’s not a God of rules. Our God is a God of freedom. In the beginning, He placed the first man and woman in a beautiful garden and for all practical purposes said, “You’re free to enjoy yourselves.”

“So,” you may ask, “why all the moral and ethical taboos now?” The answer is found in Genesis 3. Our earliest ancestors did the very thing they were told not to do and so opened the door for sin to enter the world. And with sin came death. Thus, humanity became a slave to sin and death.

Whereas our world teaches that freedom is gained by throwing off all restraint, Scripture teaches us that the opposite is true. Human beings forfeited a great deal of freedom in an attempt to gain absolute freedom. As we begin to put two and two together, it becomes increasingly clear that freedom is gained and maintained by adherence to God’s laws. Just as a good father sets loving limitations for his children, so our heavenly Father sets moral and ethical perimeters for us.

Once again, the bottom line is trust. Can we trust God knows what’s best for us? Can we believe He really has our best interests in mind? Adam and Eve didn’t. And they lost the very freedom they were convinced their sin would ensure them. What about you? Are you willing to accept that God is a God of freedom—that His laws are for your protection, given to ensure and not hamper your freedom? If so, take a few moments to surrender to God the areas over which you’ve maintained control. Confess your lack of faith, then rest in the assurance God will grant you the maximum amount of freedom available in this sinful world.” Dr. Charles Stanley

“Truth That Sets Us Free”

“Truth and freedom are constant companions. Where you find one, you will always find the other. Freedom in any area of life comes from discovering the truth about it. And discovering truth in a particular area always results in freedom of some kind. It’s when a child accepts the truth that there’s nothing to be afraid of that she’s finally free from a fear of the dark. It’s only when a little boy accepts the truth that his father can and will catch him that he finds the freedom to leave the security of the diving board and jump into the pool. Likewise, it’s only as we accept the truth of all that Christ did for us at Calvary that we begin to enjoy the freedom He provided. “The truth will set you free.” In six simple words, Jesus outlines the process by which any man, woman, or child can gain freedom in this life. Freedom is not gained through having our way or doing as we please.

On the contrary, prisons are full of men and women who simply did as they pleased. These people certainly didn’t gain freedom; they forfeited their freedom. And so it is with us every time we carelessly strike out on our own to do our own thing. What results isn’t freedom—it’s bondage. If I were to ask you whether or not you’re free, you may be tempted to answer yes without giving it much thought. But let me ask you this: Are you constantly battling with fear, lust, jealousy, hatred, bitterness, conceit, deceitfulness, a lack of faith, or discouragement? Are there habits in your life over which you seem to have little or no control? Are there certain environments and people you avoid because of an insecurity you cannot overcome? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you are not free.

You don’t have to be imprisoned to find yourself in handcuffs or behind bars. Sin has a way of entrapping each of us, keeping us in bondage that the Lord never intended for us. It is through Christ’s death on the cross where He defeated sin and death once and for all that our true freedom can be found. And when we accept Christ as our Savior, the chains that had us bound are broken, and God’s freedom truly sets us free (Gal. 5:1).”  Dr. Charles Stanley

The Freedom Jesus Promises

For years, my spiritual life was like a roller coaster, up and down—with far fewer ups than downs. There were times when I experienced more anxiety than peace, more fear than faith, and more failure than success. I’m sure you can relate.

Was I saved? Yes! Was I free? No. For all practical purposes, my new-birth experience had not set me free. I knew the Lord’s pardon, but not His freedom. Old habits still harassed me. Twisted emotions still paralyzed me. The power of sin attempted to defeat me. I longed for the freedom Jesus promised, but for some reason, it eluded my grasp.

My problem was not one of desire. I wished with all my heart to please God. But there were times I felt as if I was fighting a losing battle.

Eventually it dawned on me that I was in bondage; I was a prisoner. It was in the early morning hours, after crying out to the Lord throughout the night, that I suddenly realized I must relinquish to Him control of my entire life.

With a deep longing in my heart, I began to search the Bible with one objective: to know the joy of real freedom in Christ—freedom to become the person God intended me to be. And I found it. Jesus unlocked the door to my prison cell with six simple words: “The truth will set you free” (John 8:32).

With this promise in my heart, I began applying to my life the principles of true freedom that I was learning about in God’s Word. In doing so, I experienced freedom that transformed my life. Now I want to share these same truths with you. It’s my prayer that as you read through the days that follow, these devotionals will expose areas of bondage in your life, and more importantly, that God’s truth will set you free.

You Bring God’s Kingdom To Earth
What exactly is a kingdom?

The classic definition is “the territory subject to the rule of a king.” But there is another definition equally as operative in the Greek for the word basileia, which is used in the biblical phrase “the kingdom of Heaven.” It is a “royal power, kingship, and dominion not to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdom.” In other words, a kingdom isn’t necessarily a tract of land or a collection of cities. It is a sphere of influence under the authority of a sole ruler.

When Jesus was brought before Pilate, just before His crucifixion, Pilate asked Him if He was indeed the King of the Jews. Jesus told him,

My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm. — John 18:36
Christ’s kingdom is one of influence and authority, not borders and cities.

Another telling characteristic comes from Paul’s assertion that

the kingdom of God does not consist in words but in power. — 1 Corinthians 4:20
The proof of His kingdom doesn’t come on Sunday morning when the congregation is watching. It comes during the week when you’re alone. It’s not about how loudly it’s declared, but how soundly it’s lived. It’s easy to make a show of it through forceful words, but the real measure comes in the quiet times. When transgression takes hold, discord sets in, discontent reigns, patience evaporates, and every other fruit of the Spirit withers, the kingdom of heaven is not present. Even so, it is still near. It’s just a matter of changing our mind and renewing our spirit.

The way we live indicates whether we are abiding in His kingdom. Paul encouraged believers to

walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. — 1 Thessalonians 2:12
He goes on to say that we do this by receiving His word. This evidence that we have received it comes when it “performs its work” in us. Its work is changing our minds. When our minds change, aligning with His truth, it changes everything – the way we think, speak, and act. This enables us to spread His kingdom by expanding His influence.

This is not a call to abandon the temporary because of the eternal. In fact, just the opposite. Those with an eternal view are far more suited to steward the temporary. We just understand that there is more than what we can touch, see, and hear. We build our lives on more than the earth on which we live; we build it on an unshakeable foundation.

God’s kingdom is here and it’s for you.

You need not die to enter into His kingdom. It’s as simple and profound as, “Your kingdom come.” It comes when “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). It brings peace, joy, and righteousness. His kingdom in your life impacts those around you. It can be beautifully shocking to people, like a blind man who suddenly sees. The promise of power in the Holy Spirit means you can touch others with the supremacy of His kingdom, showing them the entrance.

You are the welcoming party for those ready to enter the kingdom of God.

P-erspective

With this reading plan we will discover seven elements of our faith that help bring purpose to our life. Each element will utilize a letter to form the word P-U-R-P-O-S-E.

Today, the letter P stands for Perspective.

“Why?” Have you ever asked God that question? Some may say it is wrong to ask God “Why?” They incite that it shows doubt rather than faith. However, asking God questions can actually develop purpose and focus for our lives. Questions can become a platform used to gain an unbiased perspective of God. Questions can bring clarity and clear the distorted doubt regarding direction for our lives.

Life has a way of clouding our vision of God and His purpose for our lives. By gaining a new perspective of God, our faith grows and our purpose deepens.

Today’s challenge: As you read today’s verses, write down some of new perspectives of purpose for your life as seen from God’s view.

Romans 8:28

And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.

Living a faithful life for God requires taking risks. Many Christians are weighted down by the fear of stepping out of their boat. Their boat is often named “Comfort Zone.” Many are afraid to take risks and find their inner strength. Some are afraid to push their faith to the limit and trust God for the strength to endure. It is impossible to live life without taking risks.

Today’s challenge: Describe the comfort zones associated with your faith. How can you push the limits of your faith to live with purpose? Where do you need to step out and take a risk?

If you have felt like you are laboring and in a time of pain or suffering, then I have some good news for you. The difficult season many of us have been in will indeed pay off.

Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. John 16:20–21 NIV

Just as we are celebrating the birth of Christ this month, the Lord is birthing new things in you, bringing things that you have been called and created for. For many people, the very reason you came to Earth is now being revealed. These are the Books of Your Life Purpose. Even though it may look and feel messy, trust that God has your best interest and is covering you during this transition. Things are going to start settling down as you settle into the New Year. The pain of birthing the new is going to turn into joy. It will be important to get into the place of seeing the good and not focusing on the bad. This will change things dramatically for you.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV

I released a Prophetic Word for November 2019—God Is Revealing the Book of Your Purpose—that talks about three books in Heaven opening this year: Books of Understanding, Books of the Plans of Satan and Books of Purpose. God is releasing greater understanding into your purpose, revealing the plans of the enemy and giving you strategies to overcome obstacles. Released from previous season I had a heavenly encounter a few years ago that was part of my prophetic word for 2018. I saw this happening right now, as well. I had a vision in which I saw people all over the world stuck in previous seasons and were not sure how to move forward. Many people feel called to something more, but you have not seen it come about. In the encounter, an angel came with silver keys and unlocked chains that were on people. As the angel unlocked the chains, I saw another angel holding a stack of contracts and agreements that had been made with these restraints.

These had been placed on people by those who did not understand them or had become jealous. The chains and contracts had been holding these people back from moving forward in many areas of their lives. Most people did not realize they had these restraints. Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: “The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things! The Lord’s right hand is lifted high; the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!” I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done. Psalm 118:15–17 NIV

Suddenly, the people’s shouts of joy and victory caused discouragement to fall off. Some had become so distressed; they were at the point of giving up and wanting God to take them to Heaven. But these were all being broken! I watched as many people began to shout and worship God. Then the Lord stood up, raised His hands and said with a loud voice, “Open the gates of righteousness!” Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter. Psalm 118:19-20 NIV

Jesus said, “I will fulfill all the promises I made to you. The things I have spoken to you are now coming, and I am freeing you from the chains that have held you back. I am aligning you for this new season of your life. Stay close to Me and watch as I move in the midst of the storms. This is the gate that leads you to the very reason you were created.” The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. Psalm 118:22–23 NIV

I saw many people who were being freed from the chains and restraints of the past now flowing through this new Psalm 118 Gate of Righteousness. They were given new freedom and purpose, and their strength was returning. Many of them had been rejected because they did not fit. But now God is gathering the misfits and those rejected and is building them into something new. [End of Encounter] This is a time to shout for joy, even if you are not seeing God’s plan or you are under heavy attacks. As you press into prayer and praising God in the midst of your circumstances, you will soon see the breakthrough you need. Get ready to step into a new season!

God has a unique vision and purpose for each of His children. God wants to bring glory to Himself through our lives. Understanding God’s vision, however, is different from casting our own vision. When we make plans, we want everything laid out.

Think about the last time you traveled. When you mapped out the trip, you wanted to know where it started, where it ended, where you would stop along the way, and exactly how long it would take.

Many of us approach our lives in the same way—we try to plan out all the details in advance; we want to know all the answers before we begin the journey. However, God does not reveal His vision for our lives all at once. God reveals His vision when He knows we are ready and able to receive it.

As we willingly follow His lead, He will provide everything we need to accomplish His purposes. While we will encounter obstacles and detours along the way, we can have faith knowing that God’s vision for our lives will succeed.

Prayer: God, help me to lay aside my plans and to trust Your vision for my life. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).

John and his wife Kristi have been married for 18 years and grew up in the Oklahoma City area. Before John and Kristi planted The Good Fight Church (TGFC), they were both passionate about helping people overcome life-controlling problems. It was that passion and desire to help others that led them to start a small group out of their living room in the Fall of 2010. Within a year, the group exploded with growth and changed lives. It was then that they felt God calling them to start a ministry to help even more people. By the end of 2014 there were over 800 people attending this ministry each month. It was at the end of 2014 that God put it on their hearts to plant the church. The Testimony of Tony Diaz & The announcement of Gratitude:UnFiltered San Diego, Word of God Church San Diego, My Brothers Keeper San Diego

My name is Anthony Diaz born April 27th, 1962 in Beth Israel hospital in NYC
Born and raised in the TRUE ghettos of NYC I was the firstborn of my generation meaning I was the oldest child of the oldest child. My father was the oldest of 10.
Which meant growing up I was favored by both grandmothers of which my maternal grandmother was the one that primally raised me. Being the oldest of 5 and my mother having had 4 children before the age of 21 meant I had to take on the older brother/father/care taker role.
Having been sexually/physically/emotionally abused from approx. age 5-14, started a downward spiral of what became a miserable existence. I made it to about the 10 grade before dropping out and becoming a professional alcoholic/addict/manipulator. Although the drinking and drugs were always there even through school remembering my first time, I smoked a joint was when the first of many various perpetrators passed me a joint in front of my mother!
Which lead to approx. 35 years of severe drug and alcohol abuse. Having over dosed 4 time twice on cocaine twice on heroin. Clinically dead twice!

Aug 13, 1980 was the day I was shot twice by a drunk NYC police officer on 17th street and Ave C in NYC.
Sept 27th, 1983 my oldest son was born
April 8th 1985, I strapped on a knapsack and decided that NYC was my problem so I left in hopes of becoming clean and sober. Which lead me on a 6-year adventure of traveling the United States of America.
1991 was the year I stopped hiking and met the first of my 2 wives Anna. We both did plenty of drugs together but she was able to stop I was not. On one of my binges I pushed her out the door in an effort to get her to go get me more money from the ATM. She tripped after my push and hit her face on the concrete floor shattering 12 teeth and breaking her jaw in 2 places. And yes, I went to jail on that charge but subsequently leading me to AVP. (anger management).
Anna married me anyway after going through AVP with me and we both became facilitators. Doing workshops in MAX security prisons along with creating a workshop designed for domestic violence offenders and victims

1998 Became a Microsoft Certified Trainer teaching computer networking for New York university and Brooklyn university.

Sept 19th, 1999 Got run over by Mack truck on the Manhattan bridge in NYC going to go bay more drugs at 2AM.
Jan 2000 divorced from Anna
Sept 11th 2001 Witnessed the world trade centers destruction. Helped get people off the island of NY in my passenger van.

2002 moved to Oklahoma married my second wife Angela we stayed married for 9 years before I filed for divorce.
Aug 2nd, 2005 one of the days of my life the day my daughter was born Grace Olivia Diaz
Oct 6th 2005 is my sober date as of this writing I have 14 years, one month, 13 days
Dec 27th,2007 Another amazing day when my 4th child a son was born

2013 did a 14-week experimental clinical drug for HEP-C. although I was cured of the virus. The same drug killed two others one of heart failure the other kidney failure. Became part of a class action lawsuit suing the drug company I was 1 of 15 clients the case was settled out of court for 80 Million of which I received my share.
Purchased White Buffalo Ranch (which is not a Sober Living Ranch)

Jan 2017 divorce finalized but still in appeals court as at this time.

This testimony went off of the rails and is full of surprises. Some of them are not good however you will see God work and do something special. God is always there but sometimes He reveals himself when we least expect it. This is not easy to listen too however is has a little bit of everything.

It is funny, painful, shocking, scary and somehow inspiring.

Later as the doors of opportunity opened Dr. Guy found himself driving to Honduras to serve for a year in which he has never looked back. Dr. Guy has always felt that their ministry vision is to “Find the Need – Meet the Need – Change the Nation”

While serving in Honduras Dr. Guy completed his graduate studies in theology. Has completed several extra studies in leadership and social development. Since 1996 Dr. Guy has served in Honduras at Arbol de Vida, founded by Tomas Shaw. Dr. Guy now is the lead Pastor where they have planted over 106 churches, established an outreach ministry called “Life in Action” to the most remote areas of Honduras providing the needs of the people such as water, shelter, shoes and clothing, food. Mobility through rugged wheelchairs, and education to over 350 communities annually and averaging over 15,000 documented personas accepting Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life.

Plan Escalon, a very unique boarding school offers a safe home, and a place for study, vocational and business training and opportunities to over 400 youth every year to hear and be trained in a biblical environment and then sent out to change their nation.
Dr. Guy Henry has served in Honduras for nearly 22 yrs. He is the lead Pastor of Arbol de Vida and serves to train other leaders throughout the nation by the Grace that God has placed on his life. He is married and has two adopted Honduran children.

“I AM A ALCOHOLIC! I HAVE BEEN DRINKING SINCE THE AGE OF 12. I COME FROM ALONG LINE OF ADDICTS AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN MY FAMILY! I HAVE HAD FOUR DESATURIOUS MARRIAGES AND 5 CHILDREN 4 GIRLS AND 1 BOY! I HAVENT BEEN THEIR FOR THEM LIKE I HAVE SHOULD’ VE BEEN!

I HAVE ALWAYS LIVED BY A CODE AND THAT CODE I BELIEVE WAS TAUGHT TO ME BY MY PA ! HE DIED WHEN I WAS 17 AND WAS A ACHOLIC ! I LOST EVERYTHING THAT DAY HE DIED , I STARTED DRINKING DAILY AND GOING TO JAIL AND MANY REHABS MY PA FOUND OUT I WAS A ALCOHOLIC WHEN I WENT TO TREATMENT IN;1994 AND WROTE ME A LETTER TELLING ME WHAT A GREAT PERSON I WAS AND HOW I COULD CONQUER THIS!

I FOUND OUT THAT LATER HE QUIT DRINKING THE DAY HE FOUND OUT I HAD DRINKING PROBLEMS AND NEVER DRANK AGAIN TIL THE DAY HE PASSED! I SPILLED OUT OF CONTROL FOR THE NEXT 25 YRS OF SHOOTING DOPE DRINKING SNORTING COCAINE DROPPING ACID TO NOT FEEL THE SHAME I

FELT I HAD BECOME TO MY CLOSE ONES! I TRIED TO GET SOBER BUT COULDNT GET PAST THE ABUSE PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY, AND THE SEXUAL ABUSE I HAD BEEN A VICTIM OF EARLY EARLY IN MY CHILDHOOD!

I TRUSTED FEMALES AND PUT THEM OVER MY CHILDREN UNTIL ONE DAY MY WIFE HAD TOLD ME THAT MY 4 YR OLD WAS IN THE HOSPITAL AND WAS DYING AND I WENT TO SEE HER AND COULDNT FIND HER ON THE WAY BACK HOME I STATED DRINKING AND DRIVING I GOT PULLED OVER AND WAS SHOT TWICE IN THE CHEST AND IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE THE ONES WHO ARE HERE TO PROTECT AND SERVE

Divorced in 1993- and remarried 20 years later. Met my present wife in Lexington Kentucky, Rhonda (white) McCoy. She’s my best friend. She was a mom of three children. Together we now have four children, 2 boys & 2 girls. And 3 grandchildren. 2 boys and a girl. We love and enjoy them tremendously.

We live in Edmond Oklahoma, my wife is in the medical field. I’m in marketing and sales. Most of my career I’ve been a counselor, A family memorial counselor and have dabbled in business ownership.

Together with my wife and serve the Lord anyway and anywhere he leads us.i had the privilege of leading both parents and one sibling to the Lord. I am currently involved in men’s ministries at Crossings Community Church and two other smaller ministries. I attend Word of God Church I consider it our home church where I have the privilege to serve as a mentor and teacher to MBK and CASA guys.

(Setbacks include, childhood abuse, drugs, alcohol etc… Family split, lot of childhood baggage, only Christian in my family for many years. Many attacks, once faced a 65-year prison sentence. I’ve seen God save me and my family through it all. God has completely delivered me and is restoring our lives daily.

From the outside looking in , I looked like I had a very happy life, but found myself.paralyzed. and struggling with severe mental health. ADHD, Severe Anxiety Disorder and PTSD .. From a childhood of abuse and being molested , to 15 year working in the sex industry , 20 year addiction to crack and meth , a 14 year marriage to a drug dealer and addict living in constant emotional and physical abuse .. Than finally escaping that life , getting sober , went to work for a big church doing ministry but I was more caught up into appearance and performance and how I looked, that I never took time to heal and face all I had been running from my whole.life .. I began to spiral.down and found myself no longer wanting to live , I could not handle the everyday , PTSD and extreme anxiety and the energy it took to get thru the day .. Some days I couldn’t even get out of the house , . All the pain finally rearing its head.of a deep dark ugly past, past generations wounds of loved ones . Those wounds finally busting open, I found myself in a dark place and begin to question my own life …

But thru a lot of counseling and professional and Godly help., I learned to fight back , and stand.on my feet and find my God given.place .. Thru taking one day at a time , and having SAFE PEOPLE and SAFE PLACES to be broken and finally let walls down , learn to trust and allow people to love me ,and allowing God to begin to heal me and do what only He can do . I learned, I have a choice to get better .. And now living a life of health and happiness and love , and walking with Jesus daily and knowing who I am , my worth and value and my authority in Jesus .. I have taken back my life and now help and teach other woman to do the same .. That no matter or past, where we have been or what we have done, God loves us and it’s not too late, we are made. I AM the image of Christ. He makes all. things new, and if we allow Him, everything the enemy has meant for harm God will turn for good !!! There is life after addiction and abuse, but it’s up to us to choose …. ”

It wasn’t long before I got pregnant with my oldest daughter. I was actively involved in witchcraft and had been doing candle spells for prosperity when I got pregnant. She is now 21. Her father was not excited about my getting pregnant. He was a very good friend that I had been hanging out with for almost a year. It was unexpected but not a curse by any sense of the word. It made me buckle down and really look at my life. While I was pregnant, I thought of her and what was best for her.
I met a man, John, when I was 6 weeks pregnant that would have a substantial impact on my life for better or worse. He was 14 years older than I was and the son of a commercial real estate investor and realtor. I was 20 at the time and frankly tired of being poor. He was attractive and was very generous. I told him right away I was pregnant and it made no difference to him at the time.
He was smart and logical and began to talk to me about the future of my daughter. His sister was a counselor who had worked for an open adoption agency. I knew even though I wasn’t in God’s will at the time, the precious life that grew inside of me not just deserved life but an abundant life and I would do anything in my power to make sure she had it. I set up an appointment at just 3 months of pregnancy to begin the process of counseling and looking for parents. I knew under the circumstances that she needed stability and security, things I could not offer while I was going to school. I also knew I did not have the family support I would need to raise a child alone. I knew from my own experience the rejection, humility, and hurt I had experienced with divorce, remarriage, and living with different relatives for different seasons and reasons. I wanted so much more for her and I was willing to be rejected by my family to protect her from those situations that I knew would be inevitable if I kept her with me.
The couple I chose came down two to New Mexico two weeks before I was due. Baby girl was two weeks late, so I got to know them pretty well during that time period. They told me in the hospital they would understand if I wanted to keep her. I told them that there comes a time in your life when you know what you want and you know what is right. Of course, I wanted to keep her but I knew in my heart that she needed more than what I had to offer her. Her father and I signed away our parental rights a week later. Three months after I had her, I wondered what his infatuation was with this drug cocaine. He was a habitual user. I tried it and that began my downward spiral into the life of an addict.

Lorenzo Stanback: A March, 2019 Graduate of My Brother’s Keeper. Mr. Stanback was born in Mississippi but raise on the South Side of Chicago Illinois he (Lorenzo Stanback) from a very young age of 14/15 years old had a long time of gang affiliation, and drug dealing and jail/prison time.

Teaching himself to read and write after dropping out of high school due to bullying and shaky home life, but he had a praying mother/Pastor Pearl Stanback. Lorenzo found his journey taking him to Oklahoma around 1998 to present-day his life of crime was not left behind until 2012 when his journey of redemption started to evolve. 2013 – 2018 would show how God would take him from Glory to GLORY from the back to streets of Oklahoma to the FRONTLINES with Word Of God Church and My Brother’s Keeper. #LOOK-AT-GOD!

Victoria Diaz Stanback: Born in North Carolina, (Tori) was raised by her grandmother for the better part of her life. B.C. (Before Christ) she was left 3 days old by her birth mother at the hospital. At around age 4 her birth mother returned to take her to New Jersey. Tori’s birth mother would subject her to the hands of many family members to be abused sexually by age 6, by age 8 her birth mother handed her over for $45,000.00 to Tori’s new handler in Human Trafficking. Ages 6 to about 10 Tori was passed from handler to handler.

There was a brief time where she thought she was safe until around age 13 when her birth mother would return and engage in the destructive life. Completing high school was the determination, Tori left the day after graduation for a somewhat better life in higher education but not leaving the learned life style of Human Trafficking. By the age 19, Tori was already entertaining Diplomats in the Nation’s Capital. By the age of 25, Tori had lived in the lower 48 states. 2013 was the renewal and restoration. Ezekiel Chapter 4 would tell most of the story….

Rebecca Troyer was born and raised by her Amish parents on a farm in Michigan. When she was 17 years old she ran away, leaving behind everything and everyone she had ever known and moves 100’s of miles away with only a few dollars in her pocket and the clothes on her back with no guarantee of survival. Depression, addiction, and battles with suicide had unknowingly been ruling her life since she was 8 years old. At 18 years old Rebecca found herself in a place of mere destruction and brokenness that nearly took her life. Why Does God Allow Suffering? The world is crazy right now with gun violence, discrimination, racism, judgement, over sexualization of kids, religious persecution and so much more.  People are suffering and it seems like everyone is pointing the finger and blaming each other or even worse, blaming God.  If God is all knowing, all powerful and a God of love, then why does God allow suffering? On this episode of Gratitude:UnFiltered, we discuss this and I also provide a few reasons why God allows for suffering.. 

Repentance: Suffering is a call for us and others to turn from treasuring anything on earth above God. Luke 13:4–5:“Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”Reliance: Suffering is a call to trust God and not the life-sustaining props of this world. 2 Corinthians 1:8–9:We were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.Righteousness: Suffering is the discipline of our loving heavenly Father so that we come to share his righteousness and holiness. Hebrews 12:6, 10–11:“The Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” . . . He disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.Reward: Suffering is working for us a great reward in heaven that will make up for every loss here a thousandfold. 2 Corinthians 4:17:This light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.Finally, Reminder: Suffering reminds us that God sent his Son into the world to suffer so that our suffering would not be God’s condemnation but his purification. Philippians 3:10:. . . that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings.

Kaylene Balzer from the Non-Profit Beautiful Restoration, Inc.

The Beginning

Beautiful Restoration began 3 years ago on a hot Thursday night in the TV room of the Edmond home of Kaylene & Bryan Balzer. Even though the Balzers had a full life having raised 5 children of their own, little did they know that the rescue of a homeless lady would be beginning of this remarkable thing called Beautiful Restoration. The rescued lady, Sharee, had seen the dark side of life; to name a few: the sex industry, drug and alcohol abuse and trafficking, crime, cons and the latest, homelessness. Because of a simple act of coming into their nurturing, loving Christian home, she began to blossom and come into her own as a compassionate advocate to other broken and hurting women. Weekly, other girls were drawn to that TV room where they began to listen to videos together, read books and most importantly, develop a community of practical, physical, emotional and even legal support around each other. Other caring ladies began to mentor those hurting and what started as a small group of a church, became ministry to countless ladies who each began to heal and then begin to help other broken ladies. There are countless stories of lives changed forever in the past three years.

The motto became “get healing, give healing.” Each attendee is encouraged to not wait until they are perfectly whole, but even in their brokenness, to reach out to someone that might now be where they have just come from.

The Work

From the early days to the present, teams of mentors not only assist spiritually but also physically go into homes in need, where they clean, organize, and decorate; so how fitting is it that in our search for a solution to that crowded home every Thursday night, we have found a property that needs the same: a BEAUTIFUL RESTORATION.

Exponential Growth

Our group of ladies, which began to grow from 8 to 20 to 30 to 50 and now more than 100 ladies, meets every Thursday night, in standing-room-only areas of that average size home and packs the streets of that average size neighborhood in Edmond. In an effort to minimize the crowding, more than 20 groups in other homes all over the metro have been birthed out of the main group, but the more it is divided, the more the main group multiplies.

“I am a California native who grew up in Azusa a suburb of Los Angeles. I began acting at the age of 8 and made the change from stage to film as an actor in John Carpenter’s original “Halloween” as an extra. Some of my favorite character stage roles are Olive in the female version of the Odd Couple and Quiser in Steel Magnolias. I have won some awards for my work but still holding out for the award of working at the highest possible level in the industry. In 2006 my first full length feature film “The Goal” received numerous awards nationally and internationally as well as worldwide distribution. It made it to the walls of Blockbuster and was on Comcast, etc.
I never attended film school or college because my family didn’t have the means and didn’t know how to help me, even though I was a straight A student. They thought it was a wasteful pipe dream at best, but it was my pipe dream after all, so I found a way to do my version of film school by making my first feature film, The Goal. It took 12 years having the story in my head but not knowing how to execute. I never thought to make a short film first. I just jumped all in at 46 years of age and continue to be at 60 years of age. Prior to making films as a teenager I would find a way to hang out at CBS studios and watch all the shows like Sonny & Cher, Carol Burnett and others being taped. I was fascinated by everyone and made it a point to learn people’s jobs.

In 2008 I also lent my skills to make the award winning medical documentary “Dandy Kids” which I presented and screened before the United States Congress in Washington DC. The film helped change the way in which research dollars were appropriated to help families whose children are affected by Dandy Walker Syndrome.

My second feature film “Spirit of Love, the Mike “Stinger” Glenn story” won Best Inspirational Family Film from The Inspirational Country Music Association Nashville in 2013 beating out Warner Bros and Paramount studio films. It made its way to Amazon Prime and Pureflix. My favorite film roles in front of the camera have been Nurse Tempero in Minds Eye, Coach Robyn in Spirit of Love and Jordan in Broken Ties.

I am blessed to have had my body of work receive Denver’s Mayors award of “Excellence in the Arts” for Global Impact in 2013. I believe each time I make a film I get a new education which then allows me to share what I learned with others. I enjoy mentoring, helping and teaching others who share an interest in acting, filmmaking and storytelling.
I figure we all have something that we don’t know what it is that we don’t know.

I am an alumnus of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. Although it was just an eight week summer program, as that was all I could swing financially. It worked out perfectly. I learned valuable lessons in those 8 weeks that I’ve never forgotten.

I am the founder of Film It Productions and I’m currently working on an epic WWII love story titled “The French American” in addition to two documentaries to empower women from all walks of life, which evolved out of my recent narrative short film called “The 24 Hour Intimate Position”.

Its never a case of not having projects. Its always about finding the funds to make it happen. Any day on set or working on film projects collaborating is the icing on the cake. I can’t not do it. I’m blessed to create art that impacts and changes lives.

Directors Statement -“Girls Like Me” music video

The music video evolved from working on two films about women battling breast cancer.One titled The 24 Hour Intimate Position and the other is Courageous Warriors;Beauty from the Ashes. The films deal with diagnosis and survivors of women age 20-80. The song Girls Like Me was written for use in both films as a result of me hearing lyrics in my head. So I developed an idea and sent it over to my incredibly talented musician friends Timothy Buckman and Turi Aleta. Its an anthem for all women, whether battling the beast of cancer, or all the obstacles life can throw in our way. As women we are stronger together. It was clear from the beginning that I wanted to show traditional roles but also ones that break barriers.Proceeds from Downloads from this song go to directly help women fighting the ugly beast of breast cancer. Its a tribute to my Mother who lost her battle at the age of 60 to breast cancer. She was a Courageous, Valiant, Warrior. She was my hero.”

“My name is Jennifer Conde. I spent 12 years in foster care and beat the statistics. I attended nine high schools, but did attend summer school and received my high school diploma. I was in to many placements to count from ages 6-18. I originally was placed in the system at age 6 because both my parents were drug addicts and there was a lot of domestic violence.

I was sexually abused as a child and teenager. After both my parents died a few months apart at age 9, I was adopted illegally and kept from my biological family who wanted rights. I also didn’t get to attend my fathers funeral, which I feel is a huge step in the grieving process. Shortly after being adopted I was sent away for “behavior problems” while my adoptive parents cashed my biological father’s Social security check.

I continued to bounce around in and out of JDC, group homes and Foster homes until I was 15 and the court over turned my adoptive parents rights. While in foster care I was arrested for attempt of Grand Theft Auto, burglary, possession of stolen property, assault, assault on an officer and resisting arrest. I aged out of the system and struggled with addiction. I couch surfed and sometimes slept in my car off and on for 3 years after aging out.

I also couldn’t hold down a job to save my life. I ended up going back to jail 5 times as an adult. 3 times for public intoxication, I spent two months in Shawnee County Jail. The other two times were for unpaid tickets, one time serving two weeks in Kerr County Jail. I didn’t get clean and turn my life around until I met my husband 8 years ago. We celebrated 7 years of marriage have two children of our own. None of my past trauma really hit me until I quit using and snapped out of survival mode. I’ve spent these last 8 years healing and finding my voice.

I’m happy to say I’ve been on the right track and I can proudly say I broke the cycle. I found creating and writing as great outlets for me to process my emotions. I started a non- profit charity called “Suitcases For Kids” because I wanted to create change in the system. I got the community involved to help me provide personalized suitcases for children who are entering foster care. Most children who enter the system only have the clothes on their backs and when they travel to other placements they put their belongings in a trash bag.

I don’t think any child deserves to live out of a trash bag. So far with the help of the community I have been able to provide 19 personalized suitcases. The suitcases have the children’s name on the front and are filled with age appropriate items to help ease their transition into care.”

Dani was born and raised in Northern California. After her dad’s death, she was placed in the care of her Grandmother and never felt a sense of belonging. School was a strong suit, though the least of her interests- finding a community she could belong to was. As a high school dropout, Dani didn’t have a lot of career options ahead of her. The encouragement from a boyfriend lead her into an 8 year long career in exotic dancing.

Speech was born Todd Thomas in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The youngest of parents Robert & Patricia Thomas. He grew up on two sides of life: the ghetto of Milwaukee (one of the nation’s roughest cities for African Americans) and (Wauwatosa) Milwaukee’s suburbia. Speech learned how to draw from the pains and beauty of both. He would absorb the plights of his people and yet the retreat of middle class blacks to primarily white neighborhoods. Speech experienced hardcore racism as a young boy. He also lost his grandmother to a heart attack and his older brother, Terrence Thomas to an Asthma attack all within the same week. Through God’s help, he ultimately learned how to recalibrate his inner anger through constructive and dynamic music. To celebrate the lives of those he lost. Speech wrote the song Tennessee as a dedication to his family. In the early nineties Speech and his mother started the Terrence Thomas Scholarship dedicated to his brother. In 2013, the scholarship is still helping many young black students further their educations.

With this background, Speech started the music group, Arrested Development. The group is based in Georgia, from humble and rural beginnings; they became a pioneering force in the music world. Arrested Development received two Grammy Awards (Best new artists & Best rap single 1993) for the album, 3 years, 5 months and 2 days in the life of…” Their second album “Zingalamaduni” was met with critical acclaim and nominated for a Grammy.

However, All the success and accolades were not enough to prevent a rift in the group that would see them split five years after they had formed.

After a much needed break and time to re group, Speech re emerged onto the scene and signed a solo record deal with EMI. He spent days and nights in the studio, experimenting with new sounds and styles. Several months later he released his first single “Like Marvin Gaye Said” The track went to #1 on the Japanese Tokio 100 charts for 7 weeks straight!

Speech toured with Vice President Al Gore and Hillary Clinton during the Clinton re- election campaign, plus tours with Hootie & the Blowfish, Herbie Hancock, Chaka Khan, Youssou N’dour, James Brown, Parliament – Funkadelic, Jason Mraz, and The Roots. (Speech and Arrested Development also lent their voices and support when the now President, Barack Obama was campaigning to become The President).

Speech has released 5 solo albums since 1996 all of which have spawned Top 10 hit singles in Japan. His album “Spiritual People” released in 2000 was certified Gold in that country. It was also awarded the Best black music album of the year 2000 by ADLIB magazine. Speech supported each album with sold out tours and intense promotional schedules.
In 2000, Speech and Arrested Development began performing together again delighting audiences all over the world with their positive and up lifting brand of hip hop.

Allison Ferrante , co-founder of N4M, is a business-owner and full-time mom. She attended her dream school, Grove City College, a college that values both faith and freedom. During her 4 years, Allison was the president of her sorority, honor student, named on the dean’s list, was recommended by her peers to be on the homecoming court and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing Management with a focus on Communication Studies.

She was immediately hired to work for a prime contractor for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP). During those years, Allison married the man of her dreams, a United States Marine and now, firefighter. They bought a house, adopted a pit bull and, together, they realized that they had a passion to live a life that they designed. They quit their jobs and moved to live by the ocean in sunny Charleston, South Carolina. Allison competed and placed in her first bodybuilding bikini competition. A year later, they adopted a second pit bull, and she enlisted into the Air Force National Guard.

A few months before heading to basic training, Allison found out that she was pregnant with her first child; her sweet, baby boy Micah. Allison currently works for the Town of Mount Pleasant full-time, while operating IEPPal, an education platform. She also started a non-profit, Networking4Moms, with co-founder and twin sister, Emily Seelman, which is designed to provide the resources for stay-at- home moms to be able to re-enter the workforce. Allison also operates a social media platform with her sister called Emily and Allison: an Instagram account and a YouTube channel.

They are also currently in the process of developing a dating app for single parents. She is currently training post-partum to compete in her second bodybuilding bikini competition. Allison has a desire to contribute to her community and improve the lives of those around her by living fully, employing her talents, working hard and loving deeply.

Emily Seelman, co-founder of N4M, brings with her experience in the start-up industry as well as a legal background. Emily went to Grove City College,a Christian Conservative school located in Grove City, Pennsylvania, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing, graduating with high honors in Marketing Management and Dean’s List with Distinction. Her most distinguished honor was being elected sorority president.

After college, Emily attended Duquesne University School of Law and graduated Cum Laude with an award for the highest grade in Expert Evidence. During her time in law school, Emily
was an Associate Editor for the Duquesne Law Review Journal and received the Distinguished Junior Staff Editor Award. She served as the law school representative for the Pennsylvania Bar Association and Allegheny County Bar Association-Women in Law Division, Vice President of the Christian Legal Society and worked as a student-representative for the Barbri Bar Preparation Company. She was a three-year Merit Scholarship recipient for high levels of achievement.

Upon passing the bar exam, Emily practiced as an Associate Attorney in the Civil Litigation and Employment law sections of Leech Tishman Fuscaldo & Lampl, LLC, the 13th largest law firm in the City of Pittsburgh. She also worked with the firm’s legal cannabis team in preparing applications for individuals applying for Pennsylvania medical marijuana permits.

In 2002 Jennelle Gordon was honorably discharged from the United States Army. This medical discharge is what fueled her yoga journey.

Jennelle first met Dharma Mittra in 2011, at the time not realizing how influential this man was in bringing traditional hatha yoga to the west, she reluctantly began her first yoga training. It was not until many years later she learned what a privilege it was to learn from this guru. She received her 200 Yoga Alliance hours certification and went on to do several more internships after her initial training with Dharma. Working with at risk intercity men in the Dallas Fort Worth area was her main focus, in implementing her new found yoga techniques.

When Jennelle met Sumit, she knew instantly this style of yoga was for her. A Bikram yoga practitioner for a decade this set the foundation for all the other trainings she would receive in the future. After learning that Sumit was Bikram’s nephew, a deeper desire to learn and grow in her yoga path was fostered. Jennelle received her second 200 hours Yoga Alliance certification in 2011 as well. Jennelle taught all over the United States, as Sumits Yoga and studios began to multiply. Today she is proud to call Sumit a dear friend and is thankful for his guidance along her way.

Jennelle graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2011, as a holistic health coach and nutritionist. After nearly ten years of irritable bowel syndrome she healed herself with conscious food choices and an integrative holistic approach. Her speciality is reversing gastrointestinal issues, as well as implementing detoxification.

She then did an internship with an Ayurvedic doctor in Thailand, learning a more east meet west approach, which is her health philosophy with her clients. Since then Jennelle has completed three extended business programs from the school, helping her to further understand the health and wellness market.

In 2013 Jennelle landed at Agama Yoga, a traditional Tantric hatha yoga school, on an island in Thailand. After struggling to truly attain liberation from her sex traffickers and the exotic dance industry of which she was held captive to for nearly ten years, this was the most effective healing remedy. It also became a safe haven as she truly feared one of her traffickers and this safe experience allowed her to heal and began to integrate back into herself and her body. Jennelle received her 400 hours of Tantra Yoga Training from Agama school recognized by the Yoga Alliance Association. Jennelle spent a year on the island, learning, student teaching under her mentors and then finally teaching Tantra on the island and around Southeast Asia.

In 2017 Jennelle made history by founding the first ever sex trafficking awareness club at Orange Coast College, called Beyond Freedom. She now has turned this club into a non profit geared to education, empowering and enlightening her campus, community and finally funding survivors of sex trafficking education and business expenses.

In 2018, Jennelle received her Reiki training certificate this energy healing modality has been apart of other aspects of her work for years. Finally adding this certification to her arsenal of trainings allows her to offer deeper energy work to her clients.

In 2018 Jennelle graduated with numerous honors, receiving her associates degree in Liberal Arts from Orange Coast Community College.

She has a rap sheet 16 pages long including 11 misdemeanors and two felonies.. she was homeless sleeping in parks or in abandoned homes.. she was an addict of crack, crystal meth , cocaine , ecstasy, acid, and the occasional heroine & her means of making money was by prostitution or sitting in front of a gas station begging for change .. she’s had guns held to her head, was almost choked to death , and even tried taking her own life by overdosing on pain pills.

Tyler is now a thriving sales representative with 5% Nutrition. She recently purchased her first home. Tyler believes in sharing what God has done through her life, and often speaks in juvenile detention centers and mentors young women in the community that are headed down that same path in hopes to make a difference in their lives. Emily Olsen is a mother, wife, writer, and speaker living in WSANEC territory on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Born in rural Aotearoa (New Zealand) third of six children, Emily moved with her family to Canada in 1990 and lived most of her teen years in Heiltsuk Territory in Bella Bella, BC.

Emily traveled to the Great Wall of China at 15 and is planning to get to Africa (a childhood dream) before turning 50.

Having lived in some of the most incredible natural environments, Emily believes her surroundings formed who she is at her core. Emily’s poetry draws upon her experiences living beside and within the plant, animal and spirit worlds. Her creativity comes as whispers of inspiration and Emily is learning how to take action on those whispers as often and as quickly as they arise.

Emily has been a dishwasher and a people manager, she has dabbled in theatre, film, and television, but nothing could have prepared her for the role of parenthood. Being the mother of two incredible children has been a huge blessing and an honour. Emily’s husband Adam has always supported and uplifted her to do and be anything and everything she dreamed of. Many of their years together, however, were spent navigating Emily’s “Severe Acute Depression” and Anxiety.

In 2014, as Emily packed her toiletries for the week-long “Come Alive” Program at The Haven on Gabriola Island, BC, she decided to leave her Prozac prescription behind. This was a huge decision in what would become the hardest, but the most rewarding and fulfilling decision of her life.

Emily went on to pursue a different life, one without medication, one which required she open all the doors and windows and let the light in on her darkness. The next four and a half years saw Emily lose 60lbs, stay off medication, and leave a secure job of almost 10 years, to pursue a life of purpose. In 2015, Emily enrolled in the Writers Studio at Simon Fraser University where she wrote fiction and discovered a renewed love of poetry. In 2017, thanks to cherished friend and mentor Kyle Cease, Emily began the practice of meditating an hour a day. This meditation practice, supplemented by life-coaching, the incredible support of family and friends, and a year of trauma therapy (EMDR), allowed Emily to carry out a passion project in October of 2018.

The Connection Project was a two-day showing of Mental Health Storytelling. Emily shared stories of her 25-year struggle with suicidal thoughts, attempts, and ongoing self-harm. Emily invited others to share their stories through various art forms such as poetry, martial arts, painting, and music. The event was a catalyst for deep healing for both participants and audience members. This project resulted in a documentary called “Loving The Darkness” which was released on YouTube on February 12th, 2019. Emily hopes this documentary will help further remove the stigma related to mental illness and support those impacted by mental health challenges.

These four and a half years have taught Emily just how much is possible when there is a genuine connection with Creator, Self, and the world around us. As an act of curiosity, Emily is currently hosting a workshop series exploring various themes through the lens of Magic, created from an idea that the universe delivers magic when we step into our purpose. These workshops explore Connection, Worthiness, Gratitude, Birth&Death, Creativity, Kindness, and Magic.

Emily is organizing a North American speaking tour for 2020 and is working with a friend to bring a Love Billboard to her community in April.

One of the greatest lies ever told by our darkness is we are alone.

How many of us feel alone now or ever?

We convince ourselves that no one else could ever go through what we are facing.

We believe that no one could possibly understand our pain or sorrow.

Our darkest moments are rarely when we have lost a battle but instead come from the betrayal with a kiss.

A Warrior must guard their heart because this is where darkness will come and steal your light.

This battle can only be fought with prayer, to respond with LOVE to betrayal with forgiveness, to despair with hope, to darkness with light.

When you need to run, don’t run from God. Do not run from the people you need in your life, Run to them!

Life was never meant to be lived alone, the greatest battle require an army, a tribe!

No victory was ever won without others, so why would you want to ever face defeat alone?

“Connection & Oneness With All Things”

The Warrior becomes one with all things.  They understand that it is darkness that separates.  The light brings all things together.  

The Warrior understands that the war is between light and darkness, between connection and disconnection, between oneness and fragmentation.  

When we are disconnected, we experience isolation and loneliness. If disconnection prevails it turns to bitterness and distain.  

Human brokenness is not an isolated phenomenon, it is a result of a break between us and God that was never intended to happen.  

Our identity is routed in our consecutiveness as our relationship with God reveals our identity.  

A Warrior understands that we are a part of the whole they know they are most powerful when they are one, when they are undivided and committed to the whole. The Warrior knows that they are part of the entire universe and the entire universe is part of them….

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then, you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is –His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Don’t we always hear this verse? How many of us know how to apply this? (read again)

Paul is actually referring to our mindsets here. There is a pattern of thinking that is formed in a person who does not believe in God. Paul is suggesting the process of breaking free from the conforming patterns as the transformation of renewing our minds. The warrior must see the world from a new perspective. The warrior sees life from a different mindset–the warrior has a new mind.

The Will of God

The Will of God is something to be received rather than something that must be perceived. When our minds are renewed it on then and only then that we are able to test and approve what the will of God is. When we see the world from our new minds, then we will see God’s intention for us is good and pleasing and perfect.

Imagine having an infinite number of futures right in front of you and each one of them is easily accessible as the others. All we have to do is choose one.

God doesn’t (word not clear) us, what we dream/imagine is possible. God’s will is not something to look at from a linear perspective. It’s not walking a tightrope. It’s not something that is a singular possibility. (words inside the parentheses are not clear)

Our future is more beautifully complex than others. Doesn’t it make sense that infinite God would have an infinite amount of futures available to us? What if there is an endless number of futures awaiting us but the portal which we enter these possibilities is shaped by the choices we make?

The future is not linear, it’s dynamic. The future is not determined, it is created. It is in your mind that the future begins. It is through the transformation of your mind that you can usher in the future only God could have planned. The only thing better than imagining a better life is creating it the only thing better than imagining a better world or creating it. The warrior understands that the world’s best future will come with a battle. You must fight for the future that you dream of…

What is the future you dream of? The warrior doesn’t fight to hold or to the past but rather to take a hold of the future… The future belongs to those with the future to create it. This is the way of the warrior. You must choose the future you want to see? So I ask you, what is the future you want to see? What are you willing to sacrifice for that future?

When your mind is shaped with hope, you do not see just 2 paths, the good one and the bad one. No– you see endless amounts of paths filled with amazing opportunities. How many opportunities do you see for yourself right now?

The Path To Peace

The path to living in peace requires us to walk into the darkest part of ourselves and get face to face with our shadow.

This means we must confront the very things that rob us of peace.

When we find peace, we become whole and the ultimate goal of peace is not only that we are made complete within ourselves but that we become part of the whole within God’s creation.

The original intent of God is for all things to be interconnected, in relationship and harmony between all things….

I grew up in a small town in Germany with my parents, twin-sister and older brother. At the age of 15, I moved out and across the globe to do a so-called ’High-School Year’, spending one year living and studying in Kentucky. I didn’t know anyone at first and I was hardly able to communicate in English , so this experience ’forced’ me to step out of my comfort zone for the first time. Not everything went as planned – I had to switch host-families, since the woman I first lived with pretty much kept me isolated & did not allow me to leave the house without her and to meet friends. Until I was actually able to move in with my best friend from High-School, I had to face a very difficult couple of weeks. I felt completely helpless, I was scared, I didn’t know how to get out & honestly felt like being kept in prison.

Today I know that everything happens for a reason and that I am never put in a situation that I’m not able to handle. That time showed me how much I can count on my parent’s support & love as well as the support & love of other people, especially my best High-School friend and her parents & siblings who made me part of their family and are still my family away from home. Over 9 years have passed, my ’sister’ visited me in Germany and I’ve been back in KY twice, the last time for her wedding.

After my first year away from home, I went on many more adventures. As soon as I graduated from High-School in Germany, I moved to Sydney where I spend one year working as an Au-pair, traveling most parts of Australia, Bali as well as Thailand. It was one of the best times I ever had.

However, at that point I didn’t know that some of the hardest years would follow.
While still living in Sydney, I got diagnosed with gastritis & on top of that, I had to deal with a bladder infection. The pain was so severe, that I was afraid to eat and even drink water because every time I did, my stomach started to hurt so badly that I couldn’t function properly.
Within a few weeks I had lost so much weight that I was dangerously underweight and nothing but skin and bone. Unfortunately the medicine I got subscribed didn’t help, so I started experimenting with my diet & was eventually able to heal myself mainly by switching to a plant-based diet and eliminating gluten.

I then returned to Germany, where I started to study International Business and also spent 1,5 years at the partner university in the UK. Since my health issues in Sydney, I was simply not able to put on weight and found myself unhappier and more insecure in my body than ever before. I honestly thought that I rather looked like a 12 year old girl and not a young woman. There was hardly anything left from my usually so positive and bubbly self and I remember many days when I stayed at home instead of going out with friends because I simply felt so uncomfortable in my body.

One day, I received a message from my mom saying that one of my best friends had messaged her asking if I was anorexic. Even though I knew she was only worried about me, it hurt – a lot.
I decided the very same day, that I finally had to change my life in order to gain control again. I started going to the gym regularly and eventually got into weightlifting. I educated myself more about nutrition and realized that I had been eating way too little calories. Since it’s mentally never easy to gain weight, even if it’s for the best, I had to not only work on my body but also my mindset – so that’s when my self-development journey started as well!
While still being in school, I moved to San Diego for an internship where I spent 4 incredible months working as a Sports, Event and Marketing Manager at “VAVi Sport & Social Club“ in San Diego, where I planned and executed various events such as the ROC �Race in LA and the Del Mare Opening Day in San Diego and managed multiple sport leagues and tournaments.

In 2017 I then moved to Los Angeles for my second internship, working for a well-known travel agency. The time in LA was life-changing. Training at Gold’s gym Venice for months and meeting some of the most amazing people as well as diving deeper into the world of self-development, I was able to create a vision for my life for the very first time. I got clearer and clearer about what I wanted in life and who I wanted to become. LA became my home & I am planing on moving back as soon as possible.

With a lot of patience, commitment and dedication, as well as the support of various coaches, my friends and my family, I was able to slowly rebuild my confidence. My passion for bodybuilding has only grown since then and led me to competing as a natural IFBB bikini athlete for the first time this year at the “James Dennis Classic Pro-qualifier”, where I placed second in my class & I will most likely compete again next year.

But for this year, my main focus will be my business and serving others!

Fitness has taught me so much about myself and has truly transformed my complete life. I was not only able to get stronger physically, but over the past years I have also grown a lot mentally. I now strive to be the best version of myself every day and refuse to ever stop evolving. My passion for health and bodybuilding has let me to changing my career in order to be able to support people, who want to feel confident and energized every day of their lives.

So when I graduated from college with a double degree in International Business, I didn’t wait any longer and acquired my NASM Certificate as a personal trainer, am currently working on my nutrition coaching certificate & have started my online coaching business because I knew that my mission is to help other people become the healthiest, happiest and most confident version of themselves.

While I worked with several clients in person, I know that working as an online coach 1:1 allows me to reach & serve more people who need my help and also allows me to work with clients from all over the world. By creating individualized workout and macro plans and also working on mindset & habits with my clients, I ensure that every one gets the best possible results.

In my spare time, I love to continue to educate myself about nutrition and fitness to ensure that my knowledge and practices remain at the highest level. Next to working out, I also love nature, sunsets, any outside activities, meeting and connecting with amazing high-achieving people, reading and listening to podcasts.

Tracey Maxfield is a nurse with over 36 years’ experience. She is certified in gerontology and dementia care and is a regular guest on well-known author and radio host Peter Rosenberger’s show Hope For the Caregiver on WLAC and iHeart Radio in Nashville, Tennessee. Tracey is the Purple Angel Dementia Ambassador for the Okanagan. B.C.

Tracey experienced her first episode of clinical depression in her twenties and lived with chronic depression ever since. However, nothing prepared her for the acute depressive episode she experienced in 2015. After enduring years of intense work place stress, harassment and bullying, she plummeted into an abyss of darkness, hopelessness and despair the likes of which she had never experienced before.

Encouraged by a psychologist, Tracey started a Blog, Escaping the Rabbit Hole: my life with depression, to better help her friends understand her depression. Over time, Tracey began to heal and found that out of the darkness and despair, there is hope, there is life after depression.

Since the release of her book, Escaping the Rabbit Hole: my journey through depression (www.traceymaxfield.com), Tracey has become a staunch advocate for Mental Illness and Mental Health Awareness and Bullying and completed the course, Bringing Mental Health to Schools. She has met with teenagers ages 11 to 15years to talk about bullying and mental illness and has appeared on numerous podcasts in the USA, Canada and UK, live radio shows and ABC KOMO News 4, KSHV 45, and NBC News 6 television shows. In June, Tracey was featured in a series of articles by HelloCare magazine in Australia.

In September, Tracey embarked on a new life journey, she sold her home, donated most of her possessions to various charities and made a commitment to try and make a difference in the world and is spending six months traveling in the USA, talking about mental illness and bullying in children and teenagers. Wyze Art was founded by Andrew Shorts, a recovering addict and retired professional skier.

Born and raised in Jackson Hole, Andrew Shorts was brought up in a community built around skiing, athleticism, and partying. Andrew recognized at a young age he had a unrelenting passion for skiing, skateboarding, music, and art. Through his adolescence, he pursued competitive skiing, and skateboarding making podium and taking gold medals in local, regional and national events. When he wasn’t skiing or skateboarding, he was painting, and starting to build a name as an artist in the art scene of Jackson Hole, signing all of his works as Wyze.

As the years went on, he began to struggle with anxiety, depression, and suicide, all of which were immensely exacerbated by his increasing use of drugs and alcohol. Taking hold of Andrew’s time and priorities, addiction flooded every corner of his life, until that seemed to be the only thing occupying Andrew’s mind. The subsequent issues with school, family, and the law led Andrew to bounce in and out of group homes and state custody for over 5 years. Shortly after turning 18, Andrew’s lifestyle choices forced him to drop out of high school, and subsequently things only got more and more bleak. From there he bounced between jail, rehab, and living out of his car and a hammock for about 2 years.

Unbeknownst to him, being arrested one final time would be a turning point that would in the long term lead him to a new path that would pay endless dividends. Shortly after his arrest, it was clear the legal system felt that they had no choice but to send him to prison. But against their best judgement, Andrew was given one last shot at success: an incredibly rigid program called drug court. After several months of jail time he was released to begin the drug court program, and start the grueling process of picking up the pieces of his once promising future. Over the course of two and a half years he was able to stay clean while finding his way back to financial, emotional, and mental stability. Nearing his graduation of the program, Andrew was creating volunteer programs to help ‘at risk youth’, skiing on the competitive circuit again, and repairing all of the damaged relationships of his past.

After graduation, he set his sights on being an artist again, dabbling in music, reviving his love for photography, video production, and graphic design. Just after celebrating 3 years in recovery, Andrew moved to Ogden, Utah to start building a life with his wife Kate, and to move to an area more conducive to his new lifestyle as an artist, and recovering addict. As soon as he made roots in Utah, his love for painting was reignited to levels he could not have imagined. He knew he had a story to tell and a dream that he had to live out. With several years of recovery, he was more focused, more driven and more hungry than ever to build a name for himself, and to share his journey and his creations with the world. And thus he brought Wyze Art to life in conjunction with Wyze Media; his vlogging, gaming, and podcasting YouTube channel. Now Andrew is in the ongoing process of forever refining his craft, selling his art, creating content, raising his new daughter, and building a life he is proud of. Over the last week there has been a pull at my heart to speak about some of the things that I discussed on the Sex and Society podcast.

During the interview I learned that there were more questions than answers with some of the major issues I discuss on Gratitude:UnFiltered.

That interview created even more questions and now, after hearing stories of others who have committed suicide due to their secrets, I feel led to answer some very painful question in hopes of creating a space for healing.

On this Gratitude:UnFiltered I will open up about my faith, sexuality, drug use and mental uniqueness (illness) in ways I have never discussed before.

The reason for this is because there are people suffering in silence due to fear and if I can help one person breakthrough that fear and step into Truth, my purpose will be fulfilled.

You are perfect the way God made you, however fully understand this until you are willing to be honest with yourself.

Dr. Kate Balestrieri, Psy.D., CSAT-S is a Licensed Clinical and Forensic Psychologist in CA and IL, and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist – Supervisor. 

She earned her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago, with a concentration in Forensic Psychology. 

In over 12 years of clinical experience, she has conducted clinical and forensic evaluations, served as an expert witness, and provided treatment in clinical, forensic, and correctional settings. 

In private practice, Dr. Balestrieri works with adolescents, adults, and couples to address a variety of mental health concerns. 

In addition to individual and couples’ therapy, she conducts comprehensive cognitive and personality assessments, differential diagnosis evaluations, and screenings for the presence of alcohol/drug addiction or sex/love addiction, or compulsive relationship behavior.

Historically, she has provided therapeutic services at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), the Center for Healthy Sex in Los Angeles, CA and Promises Treatment Centers, in Malibu, CA, in the Substance Abuse and Intimacy Disorders and Residential Chemical Dependence programs, treating clients with co-occurring addiction and psychiatric issues. 

Passionate about advocacy, Dr. Balestrieri serves as a volunteer member on the board of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) and has previously served as the volunteer Clinical Director for the Los Angeles chapter of A Home Within, an organization dedicated to pairing foster care involved youth with a pro bono therapist in the community.

Before relocating to CA in 2014, Dr. Balestrieri had a successful private practice in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, and worked at the Illinois Department of Corrections, the Cook County Juvenile Court Clinic, the Illinois Department of Human Services, Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice, where she treated incarcerated adults and adjudicated youth with myriad needs, while exploring the intersection of mental illness, trauma, and addiction and the legal system.

“My world has revolved around sports and fitness for over 15 years now. I grew up as an athlete, and was an All-Varsity athlete for volleyball, basketball, and track and field with multiple award recognitions. Following high school, I competed at Long Beach City College in Women’s volleyball, where I was named Best Offensive Player, despite being only 5’5.

Following my college years, I used my athletic talents to break into the entertainment industry and book fitness modeling jobs. I’ve worked with Adidas, Reebok, Fitbit, and Puma to name a few. Spiritual Bypassing

I will share how this kept me on the hamster wheel of self inflicted pain that hurt anyone and everyone tried to love me. There is a way to end these cycles that are formed from bypassing.

In 2017, he earned his Masters of Science in Homeland Security & Emergency Management with the distinction of High Honors from National University. D’Andre is a two-time nominee to the 2017 National University Scholarship Conference and recipient of National University’s 2017 Top Scholar Award and The Emerging Leadership Award. He is also the recipient of the Artist In Music (AIM) Humanitarian of the Year Award. He holds several certifications in the homeland security and terrorism related topics.

His research in areas of domestic and international policy has been published in the William & Mary Environment Law and Policy Review and University of Oregon’s Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation. His work and research in Mental Health, as it relates to improving law enforcement’s response, has been published in the International Journal of Mental Health and Human Resilience.

He donates his and his companies time, awareness, services and products every month to various charities across North America as his way of giving back.

Shane Griffin is making the world a better place by giving back globally, nationally and regionally with the charitable division of Vitamin Patch Club. 

He calls it Philanthropreneurship, the concept of building a business based on giving back. 

That is the 10k foot view, but ground level he also offers his life coaching and speaking services pro-bono to support people going through recovery significant life changes.

She took the time to explore what the world has to offer and find out who she is – a Naughty World Traveling Historian – and then took the steps to merging her passions into a very real and profitable reality. Sienna is living the dream – doing what she loves and living an unapologetic life.

“On the surface I would be called a ‘recovering addict’. Recovering from an addiction to opiates as the general public would call them. They are just pills and heroine to me….opiates sounds a little silly or pharmaceutical to me. Truth is I’m recovering from a lifestyle, not just drugs. When you are an addict and so much of your life has revolved around it and then you suddenly decide to quit, it takes a shit ton of work. A total reprogramming of the brain and habits.“ — Kat

Kat’s journey has already marked a page in the Book of Life as one on the “Hero’s Journey” (Campbell). From the absolute social status high of living in a beautiful suburb community with her young family, to the proverbial “hitting rock bottom” and homeless on the coast of California, interspersed with long periods of incarcerations, several ‘rehabs’ and 12-step programs.

Very early in recovery she found healing in service. “It kept me clean, happy, connected and safe.” Midst building her life back though she barreled through endless obstacles that were in her way from succeeding and saw a true need and lack of support to women and children in the recovery world. She connected to other women in recovery, finding that they also struggled with things so simple as feeding themselves, their children, having transportation to jobs, all while trying to improve their self esteem and make amends with the wrongs they had committed.

In the last several years Kat has led and taught courses on healthy sexuality and self-love, based on her own battle with self-acceptance and self-forgiveness. It has broadened her reach and positioned Kat as a singular role-model for other recovering addicts and those struggling with PTSD and all forms of abuse. Kat is a voice of clarity and passion to those ready to wake up from living life in a victim stance.

Kat believes in the healing balm of sisterhood, relating to and finding the ‘soulful’ connection with others. She notes, “It was the women in my communities of incarceration, 12-step programs and rehab that showed me the love I needed in my life. They taught me how to fight, to fight for my own life”. Her passion is to support women needing support on their own Hero’s Journey through self-acceptance, humor and sharing with one another.
