Farkhunda Muhtaj is an Afghan-Canadian professional footballer and social activist who bridges the worlds of sport, education, and humanitarianism. 

She captains the Afghanistan Women's National Football Team and is the first signing for Calgary WILD FC, where she serves as both a footballer and Community Ambassador. She will be competing in the inaugural season of Canada’s first professional women's soccer league, the Northern Super League. 

As Co-Founder of the Scarborough Simbas, a non-profit organization, Farkhunda uses sport to support the settlement of refugees in Canada (Greater Toronto Area). She also founded Ayenda FC, the unofficial Afghan Youth National Football Team, in 2021, following her evacuation of over 300 Afghans, including members of the Afghanistan Youth National Team, to Portugal after the Taliban's return to power. 

She holds two degrees from York University, earning a BSc in 2019 and a B.Ed in 2021, and captained the university’s women’s soccer team, earning accolades such as USPORT Academic All-Canadian, OUA First-Team All-Star, and an OUA Gold Medal.

She is a member of Canada Soccer’s Women’s Advisory Committee and the FIFA World Cup 2026 Toronto Sport, Physical Activity, Health & Wellness Program Advisory Body. After competing in the Netherlands for the past few years, Farkhunda is excited to return home and help grow women’s football.

Heather Culbert, a remarkable and fearless woman, has managed to carve her own path in the male-dominated oil and gas industry. With over 27 years of experience, Heather has held senior positions such as Senior Vice President of Corporate Services at Enterplus. She also served as Vice Chair of the Board of Export Development Canada and is a board member of the Fraser Institute and Catapult Environmental. A passionate volunteer and philanthropist, Heather has co-founded and chairs both the Board Ready Women and Access Connects not-for-profit organizations in Alberta. Alicia Quesnel was born in the mid-1960s, in a dysfunctional family with a traditional mother who had no financial capability and an alcoholic father. When she was 11 or 12, Alicia took a career test that suggested she become a lawyer. She wrote away to law schools and worked hard to pursue this career, eventually falling in love with oil and gas leases through her practice.

She worked on the LNG Canada Project and traveled across Asia to negotiate with foreign companies, learning the importance of patience, objectivity and not taking things personally. Through her career, Alicia learned that sponsorship is more important than mentorship when it comes to achieving success, and that diversity, equity and inclusion should be a goal for everyone--not just women.

Katie Smith-Parent is the Executive Director of Young Women in Energy (YWE), a nonprofit Alberta organization of more than 4500 members that provides voice, presence, development and leadership for women working in the energy industry. She is also the co-founder of Access Connects, a group dedicated to increasing women into decision-making roles in all sectors in Calgary.
