As a way to alleviate stress and worry about my cue not being good enough I would just tell myself to get the cue finished and to not worry about it being "perfect".Perfection is an ever-changing ideal. Over the years of working as a creative professional I have found that one day I could think that a track was "perfect" only to hear it a few days later and think it was "rubbish".Needless to say, I stopped chasing perfection and started chasing the journey.Without getting to "out there", I realised that the process of creating was the magic and the output twas the by-product. As long as the track felt "done" in a round about sort of way I would send it off. Set and forget type of thing. This is a must in my opinion. Learn to let go of perfection and embrace enjoying creating a track that has elements of awesome and is a little rough around the edges.IT doesn't mean your work is any less worthy, it just means you are saving time and stress and increasing output! To listen and read a full transcript, click here.

<itunes:season>1</itunes:season><itunes:episode>5</itunes:episode>

TMCP 004: Five Common Mistakes of Aspiring Trailer Music Composers

<itunes:duration>1499</itunes:duration>
<itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit>

I have been working with aspiring trailer composers for over two years now. As a result, I have come to learn what it is that most of them do 'wrong' in their trailer cues. These mistakes, annoyingly for them, are incredibly easy to make (I still make one of the regularly). But, they are also very easy to resolve. If you are an aspiring trailer composer or even a pro who is now just curious then give the show a listen.I'd love to hear what you think and whether you agree or not. Also, let me know which mistakes you make too. The main reason for me doing this is obvs for me to help you get better. So listen with an open mind and tell your ego to bog off. Mistakes are there to help you improve and that's what this episode will hopefully do too.To listen and read a full transcript, click here.

<itunes:season>1</itunes:season><itunes:episode>4</itunes:episode>

TMCP 003: The Five rules of Trailer Music

<itunes:duration>1492</itunes:duration>
<itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit>

Well, it's more like the five "guidelines" but "rules" sounds so much more definitive and generally more awesome doesn't it. If I were to say "the five guidelines of trailer music" it would sound more like a HR manual then a gripping podcast episode. That aside. These five rules appear this early on in my show because you will find that I talk about them quite a lot. Or at least they are incredibly relevant to the way I work and the way I encourage other people to work.If you don't agree with the rules and have your own then that's great. Well done. Again, I could possibly call these the "five anecdotal guidelines", but it's starting to sound more like a medical brochure now. These are essential to all trailer composers, in fact all creative people in general. So I would (obviously) suggest you give these a listen. To listen and read a full transcript, click here.https://thetrailermusicschool.com

<itunes:image href="https://feeds.podetize.com/iVi4E-ieOz.jpg"></itunes:image><itunes:season>1</itunes:season><itunes:episode>3</itunes:episode>

TMPC 002: Where to get inspiration for your trailer cues

<itunes:duration>1271</itunes:duration>
<itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit>

This episode is actually a more general chat about what inspiration is and how you can better harness it to improve your ability to write on demand.I find a good analogy for inspiration is that it is a flow of energy; it's just a case of keeping your flow open (sounds gross when I put it like that).Immature jokes aside, if you can have a better understanding of your 'spark' or 'flow' or 'element' then the better chance you have of being in it/with it/in control of it etc.If you have ever suffered from "writer's block" then I reckon you need to give this a listen.
